Responding to Emergency Needs
Since 2005, BNP Paribas has partnered with Save the Children in emergency response situations, supporting vital programs that help build stronger, more resilient communities and save children's lives. Whether responding to the earthquake in Haiti or to Hurricane Sandy, BNP has encouraged its employees to take action, helping ensure that Save the Children can help protect and provide lifesaving relief to children without delay.
In the fall of 2012 when Hurricane Sandy devastated the eastern seaboard, BNP Paribas once again mobilized its employees. The bank organized a donation collection and matched employees' contributions to Save the Children's Hurricane Sandy Children in Emergency Fund, which supports the ongoing and urgent needs resulting from the storm. BNP Paribas has since proven to be Save the Children's largest corporate workplace giving donor, raising $70,000 for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
BNP shares Save the Children's commitment to children's survival and well-being. We recognize the exceptional demonstration of humanitarian leadership of employees and corporate leadership of the bank. Thanks to their generosity, Save the Children has reached over 40,000 vulnerable children and families through both short- and long-term relief and redevelopment efforts.
About Save the Children's Approach to Emergency Response
In line with its core mission — to deliver immediate and lasting improvements to children's lives worldwide — Save the Children is committed to responding to emergencies that threaten children's lives.
Save the Children works to break the cycle of poverty and improve the lives of children by ensuring they have the resources they need — access to a quality education, healthy foods and opportunities to grow and develop in a nurturing environment. When disasters like hurricanes and wildfires strike, Save the Children is among the first on the ground ensuring the needs of children are being met.
Save the Children knows that after a disaster like Hurricane Sandy, children need emotional support. As families rebuild their lives, Save the Children is providing support for children and their caregivers, helping child care programs become fully operational again; and working to improve the ability of New York and New Jersey—and the U.S. in general—to better protect children when disasters strike.
Save the Children's early childhood education, literacy, physical activity and nutrition, and emergency response programs reached more than 185,000 children and families in the United States last year alone. For more information, visit www.savethechildren.org/usa.
