Fulfilling Our Mission
Over 100 years ago, our founder said, “Save the Children is often told that its aims are impossible – that there has always been child suffering and there always will be. We know it’s impossible only if we make it so. It’s impossible only if we refuse to attempt it.”
Through the decades, Save the Children has continued to work to save children’s lives, and that’s still what we do today.
By supporting Save the Children, you're helping save children’s lives, too.
We Do Whatever It Takes
Our pioneering programs address children's unique needs, giving them a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. In the United States and around the world, our work creates lasting change for children, their families and communities – ultimately, transforming the future we all share.
This work is only made possible by the ongoing generosity of our donors, whose valuable support is used in the most cost-effective ways.
It's important to note that all our work intersects – helping a boy or girl go to school also protects them from dangers such as child trafficking and early marriage. Keeping children healthy from disease or malnutrition means their parents are more likely to avoid costly treatment and be better able to provide for their family.
Because the climate crisis impacts all aspects of children’s lives, so too does Save the Children’s work.
We don’t go into communities, carry out a project and then move on. We consult with children, their families, community leaders and local councils to understand all the issues or barriers, and then we develop programs that address these. We build trust so that our programs are successful and bring about real change.
Learn More About Our Work
As a global leader in child health, Save the Children keeps children healthy and thriving. Today, as children around the world are growing up in a deadly pandemic, we are supporting frontline health workers and providing education and hygiene supplies to help families and communities protect themselves against COVID-19 and stay healthy.
From rural America’s poorest communities to conflict-affected countries, Save the Children ensures children are educated. But for the first time in history, an entire generation of children globally have had their education disrupted. That's why we're supporting distance learning, ensuring that children who rely on school meal programs don’t go hungry and advocating to ensure children’s right to an education.
Save the Children was the first global organization devoted solely to protecting children from harm. Today, as COVID-19 threatens to exacerbate the risk of violence against children, we're doing whatever it takes to keep the most vulnerable children safe from risks now heightened during the pandemic.
Save the Children is the global leader in child-focused humanitarian response. We’ve been a lifeline for families fleeing violence in Syria, Venezuela, Myanmar and dozens of other crises around the world. Right now, we are engaged in the most sweeping humanitarian response in our history to help protect children from the unique risks because of COVID-19.
Save the Children works to ensure children’s voices are heard, their rights are realized and their issues are given top priority. That's why U.S. policymakers look to us as the leading expert on childhood, both here at home and abroad.
As the first organization to offer supporters the opportunity to sponsor an individual child, Save the Children now offers child sponsorship in the U.S. and around the world. With support from our sponsors, we forge local partnerships to provide tools that empower entire communities to better support their children’s health, education, protection and growth.
Why What We Do Matters
We believe every child deserves a future. We know you believe it, too.

- In 2021 alone, our programs supported 183 million children, including 873,000 here in America
- We distributed 22.8 million meals to children living in poverty in America
- Together, we helped 12 million children accessed quality education – including more than 6.2 million girls.
- Your support helped 3.2 million mothers and 10.1 million children improved their nutrition
- We helped 4.1 million children live a life free from violence
- Thanks to you, we responded to 103 emergencies in more than 80 countries
