Help Save Children in Jordan
With conflict continuing to rage across the region, the recent influx of Iraqi and Syrian refugees into Jordan has added to the vulnerability of both refugee and Jordanian children and families. The Jordanian government is struggling to provide basic health, food and social services to both citizens and refugees. In response, Save the Children provides aid, education and protection to children in need.
The Challenges for Children in Jordan
With resources stretched to a breaking point, many children in Jordan lack access to education, health and basic services. They need your help.*
- 18 out of 1000 children die before their 5th birthday
- 2% of children are engaged in child labor
- 14% of people live in poverty
Our Work for Children in Jordan
Save the Children established the Jordan field office in 1985 with a special focus on children and families. Since then, our programs have contributed to both social and economic development, and have positively impacted the lives of more than one million Jordanian women and children. Our effort to improve health care services and education and create economic opportunities for poor women have been recognized internationally and continue to result in real and lasting change for children and families.
Save the Children works in Jordan helping displaced Iraqi and Syrian children have access to quality education and protection until it is safe for them to return home. We have developed a regional, "life-cycle" strategy addressing the educational needs of children from pre-school to early adulthood, including early childhood development, primary school education and non-formal youth education. This work benefits all children in Jordan, whether Jordanian, Syrian or Iraqi.
