Help Save Children in Iraq

As conflict continues to rage throughout Iraq, children are the ones who suffer the most. Facing violence, forced displacement and often separated from their families, Iraq’s children are living in fear. As their infrastructures crumbles, children in Iraq lose access to health, education and basic services, while their chances and hopes for a bright future dim.

The lives of more than half a million children now hang in the balance. Thousands of families escaped the area around Hawija and Mosul and have crossed into northeast Syria. They are living in desperate conditions across the border – camps that were designed to accommodate 60,000 people are over capacity. Save the Children is providing emergency water supplies, dried food, soap and other items to displaced families.

Our Work for Children in Iraq

The humanitarian crisis is affecting children and families in Iraq. In fact, it’s estimated that 1 in 3 children require humanitarian aid. The Kurdistan Region of Iraq is currently home to hundreds of thousands of refugees and internally displaced families, who have fled the violence across Iraq and Syria. Children in Iraq have often witnessed or experienced violence, and left their homes in terrifying circumstances. Many now face hot summers and freezing winters living in tents, half built apartment blocks and public buildings. Save the Children is in Iraq providing essential goods to families, such as water and hygiene kits, as well as building sanitation facilities and running child friendly spaces and education classes. Thanks to the generous support of donors like you, Save the Children will continue to protect vulnerable Iraqi children and provide desperately needed relief to families.

  • Protected 78,698 children from harm
  • Supported 305,069 children in times of crisis
  • Provided 229,092 children with a healthy start in life
  • Supported 30,456 parents to provide for their children’s basic needs
