Help Save Children in Sierra Leone
Children in Sierra Leone are threatened by frequent disasters and emergencies — like the recent devastating mudslide that killed hundreds of people, including over 100 children. Save the Children is working to rebuild programs that help Sierra Leone’s children survive and thrive, and we need your help.

Our Work for Children in Sierra Leone
Devastating mudslides and torrential flooding killed more than 300 people in 2017 — 122 of them children — around Sierra Leone's capital Freetown. 810 people were missing, two suspected cases of cholera were reported and 3,000 people were forced from their homes.
Save the Children is in Sierra Leone providing counseling and support services to children and families affected by the crisis, and will distribute thousands of sanitary and hygiene products including soap, water treatment kits and hand-washing equipment.
Having worked in West Africa since 1987, Save the Children's relief workers have extensive experience in humanitarian response to the region's frequent disasters and emergencies. In 2012, we mounted large-scale efforts to control the cholera outbreak in Sierra Leone, and also battled Ebola there. Now, we’re helping the fragile country rebuild their healthcare services to help children survive.
Recent health care reforms in Sierra Leone have opened up free access for the country’s poorest mothers and children. As a result, the rate of children treated for malaria, diarrhea and pneumonia has risen dramatically since 2011.
