Help Save Children in Tanzania
Tanzania is home to some of the world's hardest to reach children. Only 16% of Tanzanian children are currently registered at birth, according to the latest Tanzania surveys. And that percentage is even lower in rural areas, making it harder to identify and help children in need. With high child mortality and drop-out rates, there is much work to be done to help children survive and thrive.
The Challenge for Tanzanian Children
Without access to education, healthcare and other basic services, Tanzania’s children need your help. *
- Only 73% of girls 15 and older are literate
- 30% of school-age children are out of school
- 49 out of 1000 children die before their 5th birthday
- 29% of children are engaged in child labor
- 49% of people live in poverty
Our Work for Children in Tanzania
Save the Children helps Tanzania’s children by working closely with communities at the local level and advocating for change at the national level. Through advocacy, education, health, protection and nutrition programs, we’re working to help Tanzania’s children survive and thrive.
While children, especially the poorest ones in Tanzania, still face many challenges to their survival, development, best interests and participation, the Government of Tanzania has set an enabling child rights framework for achieving positive changes in children’s lives. The government is working to pass comprehensive laws relating to children, including the promotion and protection of the children’s welfare.
Save the Children is working to ensure that the children’s rights that are proclaimed in various Policies such as the Child Development Policy, Health Policy, Employment Policy and National Nutrition Strategy are included in Tanzania’s new Constitution, guaranteeing the country’s youngest citizens the right to a brighter future.
