Why Donate Bitcoin, Ethereum, NFTs and other Cryptocurrencies to Charity

For over 100 years Save the Children’s mission has been based on the simple principle that all children have the right to be healthy, educated and protected.

Today, children globally face unprecedented humanitarian crises. These are being exacerbated by worsening conflicts, climate disasters and the far-reaching impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Save the Children work in more than 100 countries.  Your cryptocurrency donations have supported children fleeing conflicts like Ukraine and Afghanistan, families suffering from the hunger crisis in countries like Somalia and those impacted climate disasters like Hurricane Ian in the United States.

If you would like to support a specific country or humanitarian response, please include this in the "Donation notes” field and we will do our best to honor your wishes.

Save the Children’s crypto philanthropy journey

Save the Children was the first iNGO (international Non-Governmental Organization) to accept a bitcoin donation in 2013 in response to Typhoon Haiyan which struck Southeast Asia and devastated the Philippines.

Around the world children are being robbed of their futures by a global economy built on inequality and greed. With your continued support, Save the Children believes that blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies can be a force for good and a force for financial inclusion.

Is my cryptocurrency charitable donation tax deductible? Can I donate anonymously?

Yes, you can donate anonymously. Please note you will not receive a tax receipt unless you provide your email address.

Yes, your cryptocurrency donation is tax deductible*. Save the Children offers supporters who want to donate cryptocurrency to charity the ability to donate in a tax-efficient way. The IRS classifies cryptocurrency donations as property, meaning they are not subject to capital gains tax and are tax-deductible. Your contribution is tax-deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law. For example, for donors in the United States, the IRS has classified bitcoin as property for tax purposes. This means that when someone donates bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit such as Save the Children, donors do not have to pay capital gains tax and it is tax-deductible if you provide your email address.
