Save the Children Appoints Janti Soeripto as New Chief Executive Officer

President and COO Janti Soeripto to Succeed Carolyn Miles

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (Dec. 17, 2019) — Save the Children U.S. announced today the appointment of Janti Soeripto as president and chief executive officer, effective Jan. 1, 2020. Soeripto succeeds Carolyn Miles, who will depart after 22 years at the global humanitarian organization, eight of them as CEO. Soeripto has served as president and chief operating officer of SCUS since June 2019 and brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in the nonprofit and corporate sectors to her new role.

"It is a remarkable privilege to have the opportunity to lead Save the Children U.S.," said Soeripto. "Over the past eight years, the organization has doubled its impact, bringing its lifesaving programs to millions more children around the world. This is in large part due to Carolyn’s commitment and dynamic guidance. I look forward to continuing the incredible work she has championed to ensure every child gets the chance they deserve.”

Previously, Soeripto was the deputy chief executive officer and chief operating officer of Save the Children International (SCI), which is located in London and oversees Save the Children’s programs in the developing world. Soeripto led SCI’s country office operations in 60 countries, with direct supervision of five regional offices and a $1.2 billion portfolio.

Prior to joining Save the Children, Soeripto spent 15 years at Unilever, culminating in the oversight of a $600 million business unit with a staff of 250 employees, and served a stint at Kimberly Clark in Indonesia as managing director. Upon assuming the role of chief executive officer at SCUS, Soeripto will join the organization’s board of directors.

“It has been an extraordinary honor to serve as CEO of Save the Children and work with so many dedicated and passionate individuals who every day make the world a better place for children,” said Miles. “I am confident the team is positioned to drive a bigger, bolder agenda for children with Janti at the helm. She is an exceptional leader who puts children and families first and isn’t afraid to do whatever it takes to change the path for the world’s most vulnerable.”

During Miles’ tenure, the organization has more than doubled the number of children it reaches with nutrition, health, education and other programs. In 2018 alone, Save the Children helped 134 million children through its global work, including more than 41 million children directly.

“We are deeply grateful to Carolyn for two decades of tremendous leadership,” said Brad Irwin, chairman of the Save the Children U.S. board. “She truly exemplifies the values of the organization, and her impact on employees – and most importantly the children and families we serve – will endure for generations. Thanks to Carolyn, Save the Children is poised to continue delivering results for children in the U.S. and around the world.”

“Janti is the right person to carry on Carolyn’s legacy and lead Save the Children into the future, as we strive to achieve our ambitious goals for children. She is a proven leader, and we are delighted she is bringing her many years of expertise to Save the Children U.S.”

Soeripto received master’s degrees in Economics and Finance from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Erasmus University Rotterdam. She speaks Dutch, English, German and Indonesian. Soeripto and her family are based in Weston, Connecticut.
