Richard A. Johnson

Richard “Dick” A. Johnson is a leader in the retail industry with a distinguished career that spans nearly 30 years. Throughout his career, he has been at the forefront of retail by driving industry change across digital transformation, consumer experience, marketing and merchandising.

During his nearly three decades at Foot Locker, Dick served as Chief Executive Officer until 2022 following two years as Chief Operating Officer and after holding multiple other divisional leadership roles across the globe. Dick turned a brick-and-mortar company into an interactive retail community poised for long-term growth in the digital era.  

As CEO, Dick led the development of Foot Locker’s strategic imperatives and long-term plan, oversaw sales growth to approximately $9 billion in 2021 from approximately $7 billion in 2014, and was responsible for a number of investments and acquisitions, including WSS and atmos in 2021. He also led Foot Locker's digital transformation and strategy to expand into new geographies, diversify product mix across brands and categories, and strengthen the company's focus on DE&I and ESG initiatives.

Dick retired from Footlocker in April 2023.

He continues to be an influential force within the retail industry by serving as the Chair of the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA). RILA is the U.S. trade association for retailers that has the aim of elevating a dynamic industry by transforming the environment in which retailers operate. Dick plays an important role in convening industry leaders and driving the agenda of the organization forward.

Dick also serves on the Boards of H&R Block and the Footwear Distributors & Retailers of America (FDRA).  He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire.

Dick joined the Save the Children Board in 2023 and is a member of the Audit Committee.
