Donate Bitcoin, Ethereum and other Cryptocurrencies to Charity

Save the Children was the world’s first INGO (international non-governmental organizations) to accept a bitcoin donation since 2013. We were the first nonprofit beneficiary of Bitcoin Black Friday via the BitGive Foundation in response to Typhoon Haiyan that struck Southeast Asia and devastated the Philippines.

Through our cryptocurrency fundraising initiative with The Giving Block and Gemini Trust Exchange we can accept multiple cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and other cryptocurrencies* including (in alpha order): Aave (AAVE), Amp (AMP), Balancer (BAL), Bancor Network Token (BNT), Basic Attention Token (BAT), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Chainlink (LINK), Compound (COMP), Curve (CRV), Dai (DAI), Decentraland (MANA), Dogecoin (DOGE), Enjin Coin (ENJ), Fantom (FTM), Gemini Dollar (GUSD), The Graph (GRT), Injective Protocol (INJ), Kyber Network (KNC), Litecoin (LTC), Livepeer (LPT), Loopring (LRC), Maker (MKR), PAX Gold (PAXG), Polygon (MATIC), Ren (REN), Storj (STORJ), SushiSwap (SUSHI), Synthetix (SNX), UMA (UMA), Uniswap (UNI), Yearn.Finance (YFI), Zcash (ZEC), 0x (ZRX) and 1inch (1INCH). We can also accept the proceeds from an NFT sale, if converted to an accepted cryptocurrency first such as ETH.

By giving today, your cryptocurrency donation can make meaningful change for children, families and their communities across the world.

What is a Non-Fungible Token (NFT) and does Save the Children accept NFT donations?

NFT stands for Non-Fungible Token. NFT is a smart contract typically built on the Ethereum blockchain, a decentralized ledger where public transactions are stored. An NFT is like a digital certificate of authenticity that serves as proof of ownership. Supporters can donate the proceeds from the sale of an NFT to Save the Children through our cryptocurrency donation page if donors convert it to one of the cryptocurrencies that we accept such as ETH. If you are an artist, athlete or public figure who would like to sell or donate NFT proceeds to Save the Children, send an inquiry to bitcoin@savechildren.org.

Is my cryptocurrency donation tax deductible?

Yes, your cryptocurrency donation is tax deductible! Save the Children offers supporters who want to donate cryptocurrency the ability to give in a tax-efficient way. The IRS classifies cryptocurrency donations as property, meaning they are not subject to capital gains tax and are tax-deductible. Your contribution is tax-deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law. For example, for donors in the United States, the IRS has classified bitcoin as property for tax purposes. This means that when someone donates bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit like Save the Children, donors do not have to pay capital gains tax and it is tax-deductible if you provide your email address.
*Please consult your tax advisor. You can donate anonymously but you will not receive a tax receipt.
