Lifetime of Service Inspires Donor's Generosity

Growing up, Betty heard stories of her family's pioneering spirit as they fought to maintain farms during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl. This family legacy helped propel Betty’s lifelong ambition to make things better for people and their communities.

Betty thrived in her public service career, whether she was creating materials on farming best practices, designing flood control projects or working on long-range city plans. "That work led me to a deep appreciation for connecting with the community and trying to understand and respond to the needs of a broad variety of residents and interests," Betty says.

Betty sees that same thoughtful approach in Save the Children's programs. I appreciate the ongoing work Save the Children does at a community level that has the potential to make lasting change,” she says. "Stories of simple farming and water improvement projects and their impact on children always strike a chord with me, given my own family history and career."

To further support this important work, Betty made a gift to Save the Children in her will. Ever the planner, she encourages others to consider STC’s impact when contemplating their own plans.

"I’d recommend looking at the information and photos that Save the Children provides about their work. If, like me, that review generates tears over an injustice or pain, or a smile over a small child’s success, then this is possibly a good place to entrust some of the money from your own life’s work," Betty says. "It is a way to create a legacy that keeps living."
