S.H.A.R.E. and R.E.A.D. with Your Child
Sharing books and reading together are powerful ways to bond with our children and help them learn. Here are some fun way to make the most of storytime at home – for babies, toddlers and elementary school-age children.
S.H.A.R.E. Books with Your Baby or Toddler

Reading together helps your child learn and grow! Try the SHARE steps:
S - Snuggle up
H - Help turn pages and point to pictures
A - Ask questions about the story
R - Respond to what your child says
E - Enjoy this special time together
Look at pictures, ask fun questions like "Where’s the dog?" or "What does a dog say?"
It’s okay to be silly! Even a few pages can lead to lots of smiles and learning.
R.E.A.D. Books with your School-Age Child
Reading is fun and helps your child do better in school! Try the R.E.A.D. steps:
R - Remember the title, author, and illustrator
E - Explain tricky words and ideas
A - Ask questions about the story
D - Discuss what’s happening as you read
Read favorite books again and try new ones, too.
Talk about the story and ask questions like "What do you think will happen next?" This helps your child think deeply.
