Why do we celebrate International Women's Day?
For more than 100 years, Save the Children has been advocating for children, girls and mothers. We believe that all children deserve to grow up and achieve their dreams – regardless of their gender.
Even today, in many communities around the world, sons are considered superior, while daughters are viewed as a burden. Families marry off their daughters early – as young as 9 years old – and then their education ends and the cycle of poverty continues. And more than 16 million adolescent girls give birth each year – shockingly 95% of them are in the developing world.
Donate on International Women's Day
An International Women's Day donation can help girls develop the resources, skills and confidence to participate in planning their future. Save the Children helps empower girls and encourage families to let daughters prove just how much they value they offer.
