In Honor of Judy Heumann

Always supportive, but ever so relentless, Judy Heumann taught us the true meaning of inclusion. Judy joined the Save the Children Board in February 2022, and from the outset was an outspoken advocate for program participants living with disabilities. She told us that she joined the organization because of our ability to scale an inclusive culture, and moreover, to ensure we lived up to that ideal. Her refreshing and pragmatic manner challenged us to closely examine, and at times, redefine aspects of our work. Judy was renowned for having dedicated her life to creating a more just and equitable world, and she brought that same drive to Save the Children. It’s this legacy that will continue to guide our work.

Our deepest condolences go to Judy’s family, her husband Jorge Pineda, and the countless individuals who are mourning the loss of her indomitable spirit. Her landmark contributions to the civil rights and disability movements will not be forgotten.
