A group of children stand together in a road surrounded by tents in a camp in North East Syria, the area where Turkey has launched a military operation. As a result of the hostilities, already vulnerable families are being forced to flee for safety. Two sisters, age 7 and 14, sit together in a traditional hut where they currently live in Somalia. The hut was built by their mother and houses the whole family, all of whom were displaced from their home due to drought. The family is struggling to eat, as the drought nearly wiped out their livestock. Save the Children is providing emergency food for the family and other families in Somalia who have been impacted by the drought. Photo credit: Kate Stanworth / Save the Children, July 2019

Bdai, Vietnamese mother of two, bends into a stream to fill a water bottle for her children. She lives in a rural highland community suffering the effects of drought. Her crops failed, food is scarce and expensive, and she cannot afford basics like medicine for her children. Save the Children has helped families like hers, by providing rice to feed the family for a month, and trucking in water to the hardest-hit communities. Save the Children has provided a library-in-a-box for their village in Pakistan. Muneeba, started school late, so she was paired up with a reading buddy, Najma who Najma helps her to read as a part of Save the Children's Literacy Boost initiative. He was recently treated for malaria by a Save the Children medical team. He and his brother are living with an aunt in a small mud house after having to flee violence in their area. Struggling to make ends meet, the family received basic provisions and some financial assistance from Save the Children, and the children are being monitored for malnutrition.
