Save the Children Wins $49.5 Million USAID Grant to Support the Government of Bangladesh to Significantly Reduce Maternal and Newborn Deaths
The USAID-funded MaMoni—Maternal Newborn Care Strengthening Project (MaMoni MNCSP) is a five-year award that supports the government of Bangladesh vision of no preventable deaths of newborns or stillbirths, where every pregnancy is wanted, every birth celebrated, and women, babies and children survive, thrive and reach their full potential and contribute to reducing newborn mortality by 2022. The project uses collaborative learning and adaptation to scale up proven maternal, newborn and child health interventions and approaches and strengthen quality of care. MaMoni MNCSP works in 10 priority districts, with the aim of reaching approximately 22 million people, prioritizing hard-to-reach areas and equitable access to health services, especially for the poor and marginalized for whom the risk of dying is greatest. The project will also work to expand the evidence and test new health innovations, and facilitate systems improvements and policy changes for sustained impact nationally.
Save the Children leads a team of partners to implement MaMoni MNCSP that blends global technical leadership with local capacity, credibility and reach, including:
- Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI),
- as well as local partners Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Partners in Health Development and icddr,b.
MaMoni MNCSP follows the five-year MaMoni Health Systems Strengthening (MaMoni HSS) Project, a USAID-funded award aimed at improving the utilization of integrated maternal, newborn and child health, family planning and nutrition services through a health systems strengthening approach in Bangladesh.
