HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ARE OUT OF SCHOOL - AND MILLIONS RISK NEVER RETURNING.
For families everywhere, giving children the best chance in life means everything. But right now, a whole generation is missing out on learning because of Covid-19.
Today's children will forever be 'the Covid Generation'. Their futures depend on the choices we make today.
Worldwide, millions have lost the protection that education brings. Like a magic shield, it has the power to protect children from poverty and abuse, and create safe spaces where they can learn, eat, play and grow.
But the terrible reality is that children, especially girls, living in poverty, displacement or war-torn countries, will be hit the hardest.
We are facing an education emergency. That is, unless we get together to fix this, now.
The upcoming G7 summit in June is a crucial opportunity for governments to step up and take action. This is our chance to demand more of our leaders, and make sure they know that education is every child’s right.
The G7 governments – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK and US – are the richest in the world. They must lead the way and act to save children’s education.
WHAT WE’RE CALLING FOR:
Tell G7 governments to act to save children’s education:
1. Governments must commit to making education a top priority in their response to Covid-19, at home and abroad.
2. Invest financially in quality education for all children.
3. Commit to ensuring more girls are in school and learning at the upcoming G7 meeting.
4. Ensure that all children are able to return to school safely as soon as possible, with schools being the last to close and first to open in any future lockdowns.
This is an achievable goal. Governments can and should put inclusive and fully financed measures in place to get children safely back to school.
Together, our voices mean more. Help us pressure G7 leaders to save education and protect a generation.
