Save the Children Statement on Title 42 Injunction

Washington D.C. (May 20, 2022) – After today’s court decision preventing the Biden administration from revoking Title 42 on May 23, Christy Gleason, Vice President of Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns at Save the Children issued the following statement:

“We are incredibly disappointed by today’s decision, which will wrongly and unnecessarily prolong the suffering of children and families seeking asylum protection. The safety and well-being of children should not be a political football. Title 42 is a tool for excluding asylum seekers masquerading as a public health policy. Seeking asylum is a legal right. As a country, we have the capacity to restore our asylum system and build a more humane immigration system. Now, we simply need to find the urgency and compassion to do so. We look forward to working closely with the Biden administration and Congress to overcome today’s disheartening decision and ensure they uphold their promise to revoke Title 42, in full.”

Save the Children – together with our political advocacy arm, Save the Children Action Network – will continue to work with the Biden administration to ensure families and children are treated legally, with dignity and respect, and advocate for the creation of reimagined immigration system.
