"A Missed Opportunity" to Ensure Families are Supported: Save the Children Statement on Senate Reconciliation Framework
WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 19, 2022)—Save the Children joins 22 national organizations in condemning the exclusion of child care and early learning funding in the reconciliation framework unveiled yesterday by Senate Democrats. The organization has signed a coalition statement calling on lawmakers to act on the child care crisis. Save the Children Vice President of Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns Christy Gleason said:
“For the past two years, families have called on Congress to ensure that all children have the best possible start in life by making quality child care and preschool accessible to all. Congress is turning its back on those families at a time when they can least afford it. The pandemic has placed significant strains on already-struggling child care providers, and the fast approaching funding cliff the industry faces as COVID relief funds disappear will be devastating. As Congressional leaders continue to work on the legislative package, we urge them to reconsider the framework and reinstate the child care and preschool funding families across the country have demanded.”
