Devex President & Editor-in-Chief Raj Kumar joins Save the Children’s Board of Trustees
FAIRFIELD, Conn. (April 29, 2019) — Save the Children, the first global movement for children, announced today that Raj Kumar, the founding President & Editor-in-Chief of Devex and author has been elected to its Board of Trustees.
Save the Children’s Board of Trustees is comprised of a committed group of 32 individuals who are dedicated to Save the Children’s mission of giving children in the United States and around the world a healthy start, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm.
Devex, the media platform for the global development community, was founded in 2000 when Kumar was a graduate student at the Harvard Kennedy School. Devex is a social enterprise dedicated to ensuring global development efforts do more good for more people. Today, there are more than 100 Devex staff members around the world serving a global audience of more than one million aid workers and development professionals.
“Save the Children is proud to welcome Raj Kumar to our Board of Trustees,” said Carolyn Miles, President & CEO of Save the Children. “His passion and unfaltering commitment to improving the global development community will be tremendous assets to our organization. We are looking forward to the valuable insights he will bring to Save the Children in our efforts to transform the lives of children in the U.S. and around the world.”
Kumar is a media leader and former humanitarian council chair for the World Economic Forum and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. His work has led him to more than 50 countries, where he has had the opportunity to meet many of the aid workers and development professionals who make up the Devex community.
His first book, The Business of Changing the World: How Billionaires, Tech Disrupters, and Social Entrepreneurs Are Transforming the Global Aid Industry, which explores how nontraditional models of philanthropy and aid are empowering the world's poorest people to make progress, will be released tomorrow (Tuesday, April 30).
“I’m honored to join Save the Children’s Board of Trustees,” said Kumar. “I have seen the incredible work Save the Children is doing to improve the lives of young people. I’m excited to join my fellow trustees in helping the organization continue to do more good work for the most vulnerable children and communities in the U.S. and around the world.”
Kumar received his Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (BSFS) Degree from Georgetown University and was a graduate student at the Harvard Kennedy School when he cofounded Devex.
