Mary N. Dillon is Chief Executive Officer of Ulta Beauty, a position she has held since July 2013. Ulta Beauty is the largest national beauty retailer providing all things beauty, all in one place. Mary brings three decades of experience leading consumer-driven brands to the role, as well as a passion for leveraging consumer insights and customer-focused strategies to build brand engagement and propel share gains and profitable growth.
With Mary’s strategic direction, Ulta Beauty has achieved record sales and earnings, excellent momentum in its e-commerce business and is amidst its most ambitious store opening program in company history, with growth plans that include the addition of 100 store locations per year to reach more than 1,200 stores by 2019.
Mary is responsible for an employee base of more than 45,000, 92% of whom are women, and under her leadership the company’s Board of Directors has become the most gender diverse of any large public company in the nation. Fortune magazine recently featured her as #6 on its 2015 Business Person of the Year Top 50 listing.
Mary serves on the Board of Directors for Starbucks Corporation and KKR, Inc. and is the Chairperson for the Retail Industry Leaders Association. She is also a member of The Business Council.
Mary championed the establishment of the Ulta Beauty Charitable Foundation, which has donated more than $20 million to nonprofits supporting women and their families since 2016. Mary is an active member of the Chicago community and believes strongly in giving back as a mentor to other female business leaders. She serves on the board of trustees for Loyola Academy, the board of directors for Northshore University Health System, the board of directors for the Ounce of Prevention Fund, the board of directors for World Business Chicago, the board of directors for the Executive’s Club of Chicago and on the Civic Committee of The Commercial Club of Chicago. She is also a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and The Chicago Network.
A Chicago native, Mary earned her bachelor’s degree in marketing and Asian studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dillon is a mother of four and resides with her family in Evanston, Illinois.
She joined the Board in 2016 and serves on the Marketing, Communications & Development Committee.
