Fourteen million children live in poverty in the United States – and their risk of entering school ill prepared to succeed is high. A child’s brain is 90% developed before kindergarten even starts – and children who grow up in poverty are already eighteen months behind their upper and middle class peers by the age of four. 60 percent of low income families don’t have children’s books in their homes.
But this can change! By reaching them with early education – Save the Children provides the building blocks children need to grow up healthy and developmentally ready to learn.
This holiday season – be a part of that change. Barneys New York is partnering with Save the Children to ensure children get the best start in school and in life. By transforming sentiments into #centiments, we’re reminded of the season’s guiding principles to not just give – but to give back!
Share your holiday #centiments @barneysny and for each post through January 1, the Barneys New York Foundation will donate $5* to Save the Children.
We encourage you not just to give, but to give back. Your gift of:
$5 can provide a hungry child with a nutritious after school snack every day for one week
$10 can provide books for a new mom to read to her young child
$20 can provide educational toys to help children learn and develop new skills
$50 can provide supplies for after school programs such as math kits, puzzles and books
*Up to $150,000
