Save the Children Statement on use of its Name

Public Contact: [email protected]

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (August 7, 2020) – Save the Children is an international, humanitarian organization that has been protecting children around the world for more than 100 years. Save the Children has been fighting against the exploitation of, and violence against, children since our inception. Ensuring the safety and well-being of children worldwide has always been our most essential commitment, and will be so always.

Our name in hashtag form has been experiencing unusually high volumes and causing confusion among our supporters and the general public. In the United States, Save the Children is the sole owner of the registered trademark “Save the Children.” While people may choose to use our organization’s name as a hashtag to make their point on different issues, we are not affiliated or associated with any of these campaigns.

While Save the Children does work to combat child trafficking through prevention, protection, and prosecution, we are not the leading organization in this field. It is only through working in partnership with industry and civil society that we can work towards eradicating online child sexual exploitation. We are a member of WePROTECT, a global alliance dedicated to global action to end the sexual exploitation of children online. We encourage everyone to visit WePROTECT in order to learn more about organizations dedicated to fighting child trafficking and other forms of child exploitation and abuse.
