June 20th Is World Refugee Day
On World Refugee Day, consider the millions of children with no place to call home.
Child refugees live in constant fear, uncertainly and instability. Where will their next meal come from? Where will they sleep? For these children, basics like a full tummy and going to school are distant memories... and they only laugh, play and sleep with their favorite blankets in their dreams. Children who've lost loved ones are especially vulnerable.
Worldwide, nearly 28 million children have been forced from their homes, including 10 million child refugees and an estimated 17 million more who are displaced within their own countries. These homeless children desperately need our help.
The End of Childhood?
Children should run and play – not run for their lives. But at least 700 million children worldwide are missing out on childhood. That’s 1 in every 4 children. Some are required to work, some are displaced from their homes due to conflict, some are forced to marry too young – the causes are many. In our recent Stolen Childhoods: End of Childhood report, we identify 8 "childhood enders," including being forced to flee from home.
