The sad fact remains that America is still unprepared to protect children should a disaster strike. Our staff members were on the ground in many coastal areas when the disaster struck, and their work has benefited an estimated 1 million people in over 1,000 towns and villages. Crisis in KyrgyzstanSave the Children’s program of emergency assistance in Osh and Jalalabad following the June civil disturbances has reached more than 250,000 people with food, non-food aid items, protection, rubble removal and livelihoods assistance. Procurement of replacements for destroyed assets is underway, to put small-scale entrepreneurs back in business in Osh. Save the Children has provided businesses with the basic equipment and supplies needed to restart their activities.
