Save the Children's Emergency Preparedness and Response

Overview

  • Emergency preparedness and response in Save the Children's strategic plan

  • Basics elements of emergency preparedness and response

  • Where, how, and when Save the Children responds to an emergency

Facilitation Notes

Before this session, all Save the Children (SC) participants should be encouraged to read their country's Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPP).

It is important to use this session as an introduction to why and how SC responds to emergencies, and our priority areas. Stress the role that a SC staff member would play in emergency preparedness and response. Provide recent examples.

Begin session with the group discussion on vulnerabilities and risks (Slide 2), followed by the remaining presentation, then discuss as a group participants' emergency response experiences, paying particular attention to SC's role in the emergency and collaboration with other partners on the ground. If possible, the SPHERE video can be shown in conjunction with Slide 9 and should be downloaded in advance.

Additional facilitation notes are included within the slides.
