Malaria

Overview

  • Morbidity, mortality, diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control of Malaria

  • Understanding the unique features of malaria prevention and treatment in emergency settings

  • Implications of malaria prevalence in displaced populations and camp set-up

Facilitation Notes

As part of the Child Health Module, the malaria session contributes to a broader epidemiologic picture of under-5 health — focusing specifically on reducing malaria-related deaths in emergencies. Depending on the experience level of participants, the initial review of the disease may not be necessary and some presenters may save time by skipping to the malaria assessments in emergencies section.

In an effort to make the session more interactive, it may be helpful to begin by asking participants about existing country- or program-specific examples and interventions, and discussing their applicability or adaptability for emergency settings. Then continue with the Malaria presentation. Additional facilitation notes are included within the slides.

See the Malaria Summary Sheet for more information.
