Child Poverty in America Nearly one in every five children in the U. S. live in poor families, according to the most recent figures from the federal government.* Save the Children works in impoverished rural communities in Appalachia and across the nation, in some places where conditions resemble parts of the developing world. We provide early childhood development, literacy, physical activity, and nutrition programming as well as emergency relief. Visit our new website K2KUSA.org to learn more about our programs for children. Help us give them a reason to hope, donate to support our programs in the United States.
