Massee Bateman is the director for Save the Children's Saving Newborn Lives program. Under his direction, he leads the agency's global efforts for community-level assistance in child survival promoting a strong commitment to newborn survival.
Joseph de Graft-Johnson: Maternal and Newborn Health Advisor, Save the Children, Saving Newborn Lives (Washington, DC, USA and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia)
Dr. Joseph de Graft-Johnson is a public health physician who has worked in international public health and development for more than 20 years in Africa and the Carribean, and more recently in Asia. As the maternal and newborn health advisor for Save the Children's Saving Newborn Lives program, Dr. de Graft-Johnson provides technical leadership for a number of maternal and newborn health programs in developing countries, assisting the scale-up of proven and effective community-based interventions. Prior to beginning his international career, Dr. de Graft-Johnson served in various positions within the Ghana Ministry of Health.
Joy Lawn: Senior Research and Policy Advisor, Save the Children, Saving Newborn Lives (Cape Town, South Africa)
Dr. Joy Lawn is an African-born pediatrician with expertise in newborn care in developing countries. Dr. Lawn's work with Save the Children's Saving Newborn Lives program includes providing technical support to ongoing research activities and strengthening regional and global partnerships through advocacy. Dr. Lawn co-led The Lancet Neonatal Survival Series in March 2005. This influential publication has increased global attention to newborn health and resulted in policy and program change at both the global and national level.
Stephen Wall: Senior Newborn Health Advisor, Save the Children, Saving Newborn Lives (Washington DC, USA)
Dr. Stephen Wall has managed Save the Children's Saving Newborn Lives neonatal health research portfolio since 2003. He oversees the global strategy for newborn health and provides technical and strategic guidance for program-related research activities. A pediatrician and neonatologist with master's degrees in Social Work and in Public Health, Dr. Wall has worked extensively in Iraq, Uganda and South Africa. He has held neonatology fellowships at Harvard University and the University of California, San Francisco.
