Carolyn Miles, Save the Children Executive, Appointed to University of Virginia’s Darden School Foundation Board of Trustees
WESTPORT, Conn. (Oct. 19, 2009) — Carolyn Miles, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the international humanitarian agency Save the Children, has been appointed to the University of Virginia's Darden School Foundation Board of Trustees.
The Darden School Foundation operates the top-ranked executive education program at the Darden School of Business, manages endowment funds and promotes philanthropic support. The board of trustees is a group of 25 Darden alumni who manage foundation affairs and give advice that links the business and academic communities.
"It is a great honor to serve the Darden School and its commitment to improving society through developing principled leaders," said Carolyn Miles, who received her M.B.A. from the Darden School at University of Virginia in 1988. "I look forward to playing an active role on the board and giving back to a school that enriches individual lives, businesses and communities."
In her role at Save the Children, Miles oversees the day-to-day aspects of the nonprofit organization's global operations in the United States and more than 50 countries worldwide. More than 6,000 staff carry out Save the Children's mission to create lasting positive change in the lives of children in need through programs that address health care, education, protection, economic opportunities as well as emergency assistance during natural disasters, war and conflict. The agency has an annual operating budget of more than $430 million dollars.
Before joining Save the Children in 1998, Miles worked for American Express in Hong Kong and New York. She was also a successful private entrepreneur in Hong Kong, building a 40-store retail coffee business across Asia.
Miles lives in Southport, Connecticut, with her husband and three children.
