Save the Children's supporters and staff from around the world celebrated the organization's 75 years of service to children and families in need at a sold-out event at New York's Lincoln Center on Thursday, September 6, 2007.

Former presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton were honored for their humanitarian service in response to the tsunami in Indonesia and Hurricane Katrina.  Philanthropist Melinda French Gates was recognized for her efforts to reduce infant mortality rates through Save the Children's Saving Newborn Lives program.

Former Senate Majority Leader and physician Bill Frist announced that he will lead a new Save the Children campaign, Survive to 5, to deliver cost-effective health interventions that can help prevent millions of deaths of children under the age of 5, largely from treatable and preventable causes.  Survive to 5

Academy Award winner Samuel L. Jackson was the emcee for the evening, which also featured performances by Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars, a music sensation born out of a refugee camp, and Broadway star Idina Menzel with the New York Children's Chorus.

Comedian and game show host Drew Carey promoted Save the Children's anniversary auction on www.charityfolks.com (see below for details).

Walking the red carpet were actresses Mischa Barton, Blythe Danner, Lisa Edelstein, Edie Falco, Julianne Moore and Anna Deavere Smith.  Author and spiritual leader Deepak Chopra and long-time supporters Christopher and Elaine Plummer were also among the guests.

Save the Children was founded in New York City in 1932 to help the coal miners families in Appalachia who were struggling during the Great Depression.  Today, Save the Children's nearly 6,000 staff members work to make lasting, positive change in the lives of children in need here in the United States and in 50 countries around the world.

CEO Charlie MacCormack talks about Save the Children's 75 years of service to children and families in need on The Today Show.
