Hats on Babies for Mother's Day!

Westport, CT (April 27, 2006) –

Save the Children is teaching mothers to use hats to keep their newborns warm and prevent hypothermia.

Simple, cost-effective practices – like putting a tiny cap on a newborn’s head after birth – are helping ensure that babies worldwide survive the critical first days of life.

In Bolivia, for example, Save the Children is teaching mothers to use hats to keep their newborns warm and prevent hypothermia, which can be deadly to young babies.

Save the Children’s State of the World’s Mothers 2006 report shows how some of the world’s poorest countries are making progress in helping newborns survive. But despite these advances, the report also shows that newborn survival remains a daunting issue, with as many as 4 million babies worldwide dying each year during their first month of life.
