Save the Children today launched a multi-media public service announcement campaign, featuring Academy Award-winning actress Sally Field and the song “Imagine” by the late John Lennon, to call attention to the agency’s efforts to assist thousands of Gulf Coast children forced from their homes by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
The ads are being distributed on the weekend of the late John Lennon’s 65th birthday.
Focusing on the need for additional long-term support to assist children whose lives have been uprooted by the two hurricanes, the PSAs ask Americans to “imagine” a better world for displaced children and then asks Americans to take action to assist the children.
The campaign also urges Americans to help create a better future for all U.S. children in need, especially those living in poor, isolated communities in rural regions throughout the United States. Save the Children operates literacy and nutrition programs in more than 90 of the nation’s poorest rural communities throughout the United States.
The creative for the campaign, which includes print, TV, radio and on-line spots, was developed by the PlowShare Group, a leading social marketing communications agency, whose mission is to harness the power of communications for social good. The PSAs have been distributed to media outlets across the nation by Carat Fusion, a leading digital and direct response marketing agency which is providing its services pro-bono.
“We are very grateful to Sally Field, Yoko Ono, the wife of the late John Lennon, and the media organizations that have come forward to support our work in the Gulf region,” said Charlie MacCormack, president and CEO of Save the Children. “The new PSA campaign reflects our efforts to help displaced children feel safe again and get back into their normal school routine. We hope that Americans will take this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of all children who are living in crisis, here in the United States and around the world.”
