Polo players compete at the Leadership Council of Long Island's annual Polo event. |
The Leadership Council of Long Island was founded in 1984 by Susan Lassen and M.L. Galston in response to a devastating famine in Ethiopia. From a small luncheon party which raised a few hundred dollars for this cause, the Council now raises and distributes at their Annual Meeting in September, over a quarter of a million dollars to the Save the Children programs worldwide.
The Council is made up of a working board of about 25 people, an events committee of about 45, and a community advisory committee of men and women from the business and educational fields. The working board meets about 10 times a year.
