Volunteer Councils are an important component of Save the Children's efforts to make positive, lasting change in the lives of children in need in the United States and around the world. Each Council is comprised of individuals who live in a defined geographic area and are committed to supporting Save the Children through increasing awareness, influencing public policy and raising revenue. They adopt by-laws, elect officers, and meet regularly.
Councils organize many activities in their local communities such as fundraisers, educational events, and newsletters. Click here to learn more about the Volunteer Leadership Councils' upcoming events.
While Volunteer Councils are largely self-managed, Save the Children staff provides them with technical assistance. Councils currently in operation are:
The Greenwich Leadership Council
The Leadership Council of Long Island
The New York City Leadership Council
The Westchester Volunteer Council
If no Council exists in a community, one could be organized with sufficient interest. Councils have between eight and twenty members who live in a defined geographic area. Officers are elected, and members serve two year terms.
