Perhaps one of the most incredible things about the public response to the tsunami last December was the number of children who acted to help other children in need.

Once again, our children are faced with painful images of children in emergencies – the earthquake in South Asia, the Gulf Coast hurricanes and the crisis in Central America brought on by Hurricane Stan. Your child may have already asked how he or she can help these children, too. Or you may want to encourage their compassion for children who are affected by disease, poverty, or who don't have access to education, as they do.
