Help Us Bring Education to More Children in Sudan

Help build a school in Sudan

Some of the walkers from the 2007 Walkathon just before the start.

The Cartus Save the Children Committee, Danbury High School, CT and the North Farmington Schools, MI have set a goal of raising $100,000* by 2010 so that Save the Children can build a school in Sudan for the Darfur refugees. A school which will provide desperately needy children with a safe environment, latrines, clean water and most of all, a future.

The Cartus Save the Children Committee, Danbury High School, CT and the North Farmington Schools, MI are over one third of the way towards our goal of raising $100,000* by 2010. Your tax deductible gift today will help us reach this goal sooner.

2nd Annual “Build a School in Sudan” Walkathon / Rally Danbury High School, Danbury, CT Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, 12 to 9 PM

Walking together helps this group meet their distance goals more quickly.

Walking together helps this group meet their distance goals more quickly.

The Rally will start at 1:00 PM, at which time the inspiring videos “The Promise” and “ Child of Hope: Darfur Dreams of Peace” created by Tim Salem, assistant principal of Danbury High school and his students will be shown. At 2:00 PM the walk will start, with everyone walking in solidarity with refugees from Darfur for either 75 minutes or 75 laps (18.75 miles) around the Danbury High school ¼-mile track.

The Cartus Save the Children Committee, and Danbury High School, CT are walking 75 minutes or laps to honor Save the Children's more than 75 years of service to children, an anniversary they celebrated in 2007. The other reason for the longer distance is to recognize and show solidarity with the long distances walked by refugees. There are hundreds of refugee camps in and around Darfur, and according to a United Nations surveyor a couple of years ago, the average distance that women walk to get firewood is 10 miles each way. 75 ¼-mile laps is roughly the same distance.

Walk with the Cartus Save the Children Committee, and Danbury High School, CT. Go to the "Build a School in Sudan" website at www.schoolinsudan.org to download the Walkathon Pledge sheet. Then ask everyone you know to sponsor you or to make a donation online to support your efforts.
