Jennifer Garner Joins Save the Children’s U.S. Efforts to Advocate for America’s Youngest
"Three-year-olds don't even have bootstraps to pull on. Our leaders in Washington and in the states must commit every resource to put all children on an equal path to success," says Garner, the daughter of a schoolteacher. Emmy Award-winning actress America Ferrera, star of ABC Television's popular series, "Ugly Betty", is Save the Children's newest Artist Ambassador. Dr. House Writes Prescription for Save the Children
Actor Hugh Laurie of television's House serves as an Artist Ambassador for Save the Children. The Golden Globe winner recently joined Save the Children and child health groups in calling for an annual World Pneumonia Day on November 2, 2009. "It's so big, you couldn't make a TV show about it," said Laurie. "But we can and must change it." Read more.
Gwyneth Paltrow Joins Fight to Save Children's Lives
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow, Save the Children's Artist Ambassador, has joined Save the Children's global campaign to help millions of children in poor countries survive to age 5. On April 7, 2009, she joined the effort of the agency and child health groups to establish an annual World Pneumonia Day on Nov. 2, 2009. "We can stand on the sides and continue to watch this tragedy unfold," the Oscar winner said, "or we can step in and change the ending. World Pneumonia Day gives everyone the chance to act." Julianne Moore Celebrates Valentine's Day with Save the Children
Artist Ambassador Julianne Moore renewed her commitment this past Valentine's Day by sending her loved ones cards made to support children in need. After visiting a Save the Children program in Kentucky in January of 2008, Moore witnessed again the benefits of literacy programs. She continues to take an active role in ensuring equal opportunities for all American schoolchildren.

Hollywood Stars Help Children in Mali Go to School
Helen Hunt, Matthew Perry, Hank Azaria and Steven Weber are just a few of the stars that joined nearly 200 members of the television and movie industry at an evening benefit in Los Angeles on October 18 that raised funds for a Save the Children village school in Mali. Read more.

Joely Fisher Promotes Child Sponsorship in Mozambique
Watch Joely on "Entertainment Tonight" Actress Joely Fisher, Save the Children's Artist Ambassador, visited Xai-Xai, Mozambique in June, 2008 where she met with children and learned about their lives. Save the Children has successfully established child sponsorship in the African nation, which struggles to provide families with access to clean water, sufficient food and HIV/AIDS education. Ms. Fisher witnessed the powerful impact a sponsorship can have on a community's ability to support its children and hopes to raise that same awareness among viewers of her popular FOX sitcom 'Til Death. Miley Cyrus Shows Clay County She Cares
In March, Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus — accompanied by her father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus — made a surprise visit to Big Creek Elementary School in Clay County, Kentucky, where Save the Children supports school literacy and early childhood programs. Miley hails from Tennessee and was particularly interested in our work in Appalachia. Miley and her Dad spent time with students and staff at the school and even visited the home of one lucky family. Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson Are American Idols
American Idol judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson cheered on efforts to improve literacy skills, nutrition and physical activity at Goshen Elementary School in central California, in March. Paula proved that exercise is fun when she led students in a dance routine in the school cafeteria. The stars showed clips from their trip, and Save the Children’s work with children in the U.S., on American Idol Gives Back, on April 9th. For a second consecutive year, Save the Children was selected as one of the non-profit organizations to benefit from the Emmy Award-winning charity event on FOX. Ann Curry Soars for Save the Children
Today Show News Anchor Ann Curry has gone to extremes to help children in need. On December 17, 2007, Ann bungee jumped live on the NBC Today show, from the Transporter Bridge outside of London, England to raise money for Save the Children. Watch the video of Ann Curry's jump. In less than two weeks, Ann's challenge raised more than $12,000 for Save the Children and The United Way. The event was part of the week long Today Show Gets Extreme campaign, during which the anchors took on daring challenges for their favorite charities. During her time reporting in various war zones, Ann has seen the impact of Save the Children’s programs first-hand. Read more. |

Ben Affleck Sheds Light on Congo Crisis
Academy Award-winning actor and director Ben Affleck visited in May 2008 with former child soldiers as part of Save the Children's global Rewrite the Future campaign. The campaign helps provide quality education to children in conflict-affected countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In the DRC, Save the Children is working to help the government rebuild both schools and the finance systems to support education. The visit was part of a larger trip the actor made to bring attention to the country's humanitarian crisis. Read more.

Not on Our Watch Aids Survivors in Myanmar
On May 13, 2008, Not on Our Watch, an organization headed by George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle, Jerry Weintraub and David Pressman, announced a $250,000 challenge grant to Save the Children for Myanmar cyclone relief and recovery efforts. It was matched by other donors less than a week after the challenge was made. In addition to the challenge grant, Not On Our Watch provided a $250,000 donation to Save the Children's Myanmar cyclone relief fund. The combined $500,000 donation will allow Save the Children to expand its relief and recovery efforts in Myanmar and distribute more food, water and essential non-food items. |

Five for Fighting Asks Fans to Make a Difference
Five for Fighting musician, John Ondrasik, launched a website of songs and videos that ask, "What kind of world do you want?" On the site, Ondrasik urges fans to raise money for charity by uploading videos that answer the question or by simply viewing the videos already on the site. Every time you view a video, money is donated to Ondrasik's favorite charities, including Save the Children. Learn more. |
