Mali: Grandmothers as Change Agents |

Every year, almost 10 million children under age 5 die around the world; that is approximately 27,000 children a day.
The biggest killers of children that account for over 70 percent of the deaths are diarrhea, pneumonia, measles, and malaria – all easily preventable or treatable. Four million of the child deaths occur to newborns – less than one month old, often due to infection, or complications of birth and low birth weight. These deaths too are typically preventable.
A majority of the lives lost each year, about 6 million children, could be saved with a package of basic health interventions that we take for granted.
