Dear Teachers, Parents and Students:

Welcome to Save the Children! Thank you for visiting our website to learn more about the hardships facing children living in the United States and Africa, and how Save the Children is helping them.

Seventy five years ago Save the Children was founded to aid children and families in Appalachia. Today in more than 50 countries around the world, including the US and Africa, Save the Children is working to help children survive and thrive. Our education, health, economic opportunities and protection programs reached over 60 million children and adults living in poverty last year. While our programs are diverse, our mission is singular – to create lasting, positive change in the lives of children in need.

We invite you to take a closer look at how we reach children in need in the United States and Africa, by learning about the areas where we work, watching videos, reading stories about the children we have helped and checking out how celebrities have gotten involved.

Scholastic Gives Back

Scholastic Book Clubs is a proud supporter of Save the Children’s literacy initiative, having donated close to 2 million books since 2001 through “ClassroomsCare”, a school-based initiative that teaches children about the meaning and rewards of reading and giving. The total number of books donated is based on the number of books read by children in participating classrooms nationwide. Scholastic Book Clubs donated 380,000 books in 2006. For the sixth consecutive year, Scholastic has committed to donating over 250,000 books this year to U.S. children served by Save the Children living in rural poverty. In addition to the ongoing support for US Programs, Scholastic donated over 37,500 books to the Gulf Coast Recovery effort in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Read more.
