Meet the Experts of the Gulf Coast Hurricanes Response and Recovery Effort
Neil Boothby, Ph.D., Senior Advisor to Child Protection Unit, is an internationally-recognized child development expert, who previously served as the senior coordinator for refugee children for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Boothby is the author of numerous articles and books on the psychological impact of war on children and also is affiliated with the program on Forced Migration and Health at Columbia University.
Charles F. MacCormack, President and CEO, has provided the vision for Save the Children for the past 10 years. MacCormack serves on the Board of the International Save the Children Alliance, is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the executive committee of InterAction, a coalition of 160 U.S. - based humanitarian aid groups. Prior to joining Save the Children, MacCormack was president of World Learning from 1977 through 1992.
Carolyn Miles, Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer, was appointed in July, 2004. She joined Save the Children in 1998 as the Associate Vice President for Sponsorship and Marketing and, most recently served as Save the Children's Vice President, Marketing and Managing Director, Sponsorship. Prior to joining Save the Children, Carolyn had a career as an entrepreneur and senior manager with American Express.
Mark K. Shriver, Vice President and Managing Director of U.S. Programs, leads Save the Children's programs and advocacy efforts for children living in impoverished rural communities across the United States. A champion for vulnerable children and families for more than seventeen years, Shriver served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates and was Maryland's first-ever Chair of the Joint Committee on Children, Youth and Families. He also founded and led the innovative Choice Program, a public/private partnership that serves at-risk youth through intensive, community-based counseling and job training services.
Carl Triplehorn, Emergency Education Specialist. Prior to working for Save the Children, Carl was a consultant on humanitarian issues with a specific focus on child protection, education in emergencies and youth programming. Carl has more than 13 years of field experience working for the International Rescue Committee in Kosovo, Somalia, Sudan and Kenya, and initiating the Liberian Children’s Initiative for UNHCR. Additionally, he has been a consultant on emergency education issues for Save the Children, International Rescue Committee, UNESCO, World Bank and the Interagency Network on Emergency Education (INEE). Carl holds a Master’s Degree in Humanitarian Assistance from Tufts University and is an adjunct professor at George Washington University and the Tulane University’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
Rudy von Bernuth, Vice President and Managing Director, Children in Emergencies and Crisis, supervises all programs and policies related to emergency response, humanitarian assistance and food assistance. With 40 years of experience in international development and emergency relief programs, he has directed response efforts in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Croatia, Iraq, Rwanda, Sudan and Tajikistan, among others.
