The best place for a child is with his or her family. Families provide the most basic protective environment for children. In both emergencies and non emergency settings, Save the Children works to reunite separated children with their families in the shortest time possible.
We have developed expertise in tracing families and often liaise with national authorities, agencies or partners in finding families or setting up alternative care arrangements for children whose families cannot be traced. We strive to reunify children with their families as soon as they are found. In most cases, separated children can reunified directly but we are sensitive to the fact that some families may require mediation. We follow up reunified children to check on their reintegration and link them with appropriate reintegration support.
