Chile Earthquake Emergency

MARCH 24, 2010— Save the Children is delivering aid to children and families affected by the massive earthquake on Feb. 27, 2010. After the earthquake struck, the agency sent an emergency assessment team to Chile. Read latest press release.

The quake struck near Chile's second-largest city, Concepción, and caused extensive damage.The capital Santiago, about 200 miles north of the epicenter, was badly hit. Powerful aftershocks continue.
Save the Children estimates that hundreds of thousands of children could be affected by the earthquake and is working with local partners to help children return to school in the province of Cauquenes, which was especially hard hit. As much as 40 percent of the student population in Chile is unable to go back to school because the education infrastructure is damaged.
