Emergency Responders
REDI Team: Asia Area Training 2007 |
Save the Children maintains strong teams of emergency responders both at country and agency levels. Many emergency-prone country offices maintain a trained Emergency Response Team. This team is deployed within hours of an emergency to conduct rapid assessments and drive Save the Children's initial response. To support surge capacity in medium and large-scale emergencies, Save the Children has Regional Emergency Response (REDI) Teams that can also be deployed on short notice. Regional teams function as a network of trained specialists that provide programmatic guidance in the immediate response and in the development of long-term solutions.
Preparedness training is designed to hone practical skills and concentrate on the specific steps individuals should take when responding to emergencies, including rapid assessments and effective distribution of relief items. Simulations are used in trainings to create a realistic contextual emergency setting, in a controlled environment, where individuals can practice and learn required emergency skills.
