Target’s Archer Farms Coffee Highlights Support for Save the Children
Archer Farms Coffee, available exclusively at Target, will highlight its support for Save the Children programs on packaging through August 2010. Save the Children is supporting an education project in Oaxaca, Mexico, where a portion of Archer Farms coffee is grown. Currently, children in Oaxaca have one of the highest rates of school drop-out in Mexico and one of the highest rates of child labor. The objective of the project, called "Learning Is Fun," is to provide high-quality participatory education in order to keep children ages 8-12 in school and to reduce their involvement in hazardous work.
This support is part of Target's philosophy that all children deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential. That's why Target partners with Save the Children to provide educational opportunities for children in countries around the world. For example, more than 6,000 children in Andhra Pradesh, India now have access to child-focused, gender-sensitive and inclusive teaching environments thanks to Target's support. Also, as part of its long-standing commitment to disaster relief, Target partnered with Save the Children to respond to earthquake-stricken areas of China and the worst flood to hit the State of Bihar in India in more than 50 years.
Since 1946, Target has given 5 percent of its income to support education, the arts, social services and volunteerism. For more information on Target’s commitment to community, go to Target.com/community.
