Reckitt Benckiser, a world leader in home care and other fine products, is one of Save the Children’s most valuable global supporters, working with our colleagues around the world since the beginning of the partnership in 2003. Over the last several years, RB has also worked with Save the Children in the US to save lives in sub-Saharan Africa as part of RB’s global “Save 100,000 Lives” campaign. Launched in 2006 the campaign aimed at saving the lives of 100,000 children across Angola and Tanzania. Amazingly, this target was achieved by December 2007 and a revised target was again surpassed in December 2008, enabling Save the Children to save a further 50,000 lives.
The wildly successful campaign contributed funds for simple, inexpensive solutions that save lives. Solutions like mosquito nets, vaccinations, rehydration salts, training and education. These simple things stop the most vulnerable children from dying of curable and preventable diseases. This is a truly unique and productive partnership that continues today with even bigger, bolder aspirations. We are also grateful to the RB colleagues that have joined the Global Challenge.

P&G brands Always and Tampax have partnered with Save the Children to deliver their Protecting Futures program to nearly 10,000 girls in Ethiopia and South Africa over the next two years. Protecting Futures is dedicated to helping vulnerable girls stay in school and realize their full potential through puberty education, access to hygiene facilities and supplies of sanitary pads. Protecting Futures also works to raise awareness and build advocacy for a little known issue: That lack of access to sanitary protection and sanitary facilities can have a significant impact on girls' educations. Lack of access to the means for proper menstrual management and the stigma frequently associated with getting one’s period is often an important contributing factor to absenteeism with many girls ultimately dropping out of school entirely because they have fallen far behind in their coursework. Working together, P&G and Save the Children are increasing girls chances to remain in school and have a better future.
This gift is part of P&G Protecting Futures goal to reach 1 million vulnerable girls through puberty education over the next 4 years. Read more.
