Ann Curry Bungee Jumps on Today Show

Ann Curry Bungee Jumped Live on "Today" to Raise over $10,000 for Save the Children and United Way

Ann Curry of The Today Show

She's interviewed numerous world leaders, reported live from The South Pole and even jumped out of an airplane - twice, but for the first time ever, Ann Curry bungee jumped live on "Today."  Ann Curry asked the Today show viewers to raise $10,000 for Save the Children and the United Way, and she would jump off the Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough, England. Over $10,000 was donated, and she jumped on Monday, December, 17.

With help from the U.K. Bungee Club, she climbed up 210 steps, had her ankles harnessed, they gave her final instructions, and then she leaped off and fell 120 feet. Before she'd even bottomed out, she was exclaiming, "Oh, my good lord! This is fantastic! This is fantastic!" Ann's jump brought out local press as well as a number of spectators. When Ann was brought ashore, one of the spectators gave Ann £10 for Save the Children. "I was really thinking, 'I hope this does some good,' " she said. "If you're going to do something as crazy as that, you want to feel it was worth it. I wanted some good to come out of it, and I think it did."

Her charity jump is part of the new series, "Today Gets eXtreme," where daring "Today" anchors have been trying extreme sports.  Meredith Vieira zorbed, Matt Lauer attempted kiteboarding, and Al Roker hang-glided.
