“This is definitely the experience of a lifetime! I am sooo excited and incredibly honored to get to go on this trip and deliver the caps. I think that I can try and imagine how it will be in Bangladesh, but I know it will be a very eye-opening experience. The part I am most looking forward to is probably getting to put the caps on the mothers’ babies and knowing that I am going to be saving their lives.”
-14-year-old Mollie Juberien of Minnesota, on her trip to Bangladesh.
14-year-old Minnesota knitter, Mollie Juberien, and her teacher, Mary Draper, are on their way with the Save the Children team to deliver baby caps to Bangladesh, marking the final phase of the successful Caps to the Capital project. Mollie became involved with Caps to the Capital when her 8th grade teacher, Mary Draper, gave the class the project of knitting caps and writing letters to President Bush for the project.
Mollie and Mary have been part of a number of activities for Caps to the Capital, including a trip to Washington D.C. this past January where they and more than 50 knitters and crocheters from around the country spent the day on Capitol Hill, advocating for increased funding for international maternal and newborn health programs.
