The Stars will Collide on September 6th for Save the Children

Samuel L. Jackson

As we near the date of our 75th Anniversary Benefit, we are pleased that so many of our celebrity supporters will be able to join us as we commemorate 75 years of service to children and families in need.

Samuel L. Jackson has donned a number of personas in his long career as an actor, being dubbed by many as "one of the hardest working actors in Hollywood." Now Jackson will take on a new role as an ambassador for children by lending his time and talent as Master of Ceremonies for Save the Children's 75th Anniversary Benefit in New York City. Jackson is perhaps best known for his role as Jules Winnfield in the cult classic "Pulp Fiction," for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 1995.

Among the other artist-activists who will be celebrating Save the Children's 75th Anniversary on Wednesday, September 6, is physician and bestselling author Deepak Chopra. Described by former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev as "one of the most lucid and inspired philosophers of our time," Mr. Chopra has written over 40 books ranging from topics such as health and spirituality to quantum mechanics.

Also making an appearance during the evening will be Julianne Moore, an accomplished actress and mother of two. Known widely for her roles in such films as "The End of the Affair" and "The Hours," Julianne has been twice nominated for the Academy Award in the category of Best Supporting Actress. Most recently, she has starred opposite Clive Owen in the sci-fi hit, "Children of Men" and with Nicholas Cage in the action thriller, "Next."

Actress and playwright Lisa Edelstein, who plays Dr. Lisa Cuddy on the FOX medical drama "HOUSE," is also slated to attend Save the Children's September 6th celebration. A graduate of New York University's renowned Tisch School of the Arts and a steadfast supporter of Save the Children, Edelstein rose to fame with recurring roles on "Ally McBeal" and "The West Wing." She has performed in numerous off- and off-off-Broadway productions, including the AIDS-related musical "Positive Me," which she authored, composed and performed.

Idina Menzel

Performing at the benefit will be singer, songwriter, and actress Idina Menzel, who won the Tony Award in 2004 for her performance as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, in the smash Broadway musical "Wicked." She will be giving a special performance during the evening in addition to Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars who are also scheduled to perform throughout the night.

Drew Carey will be attending the September 6 Benefit as well. A stand-up comedian, actor, and author, Carey rose to fame in 1995 with his hilarious sitcom, "The Drew Carey Show" and can now be seen on the CBS game show, "Power of 10." He recently accepted an offer to succeed Bob Barker as host of the long-running game show, "The Price is Right."

Edie Falco will also be joining in the festivities at Save the Children's Benefit. Audiences may best recognize Falco for her role as Carmela on the hit HBO drama, "The Sopranos." Falco holds the unique honor of being the only actress to ever receive the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Dramatic Series, the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Dramatic Television Series, and the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama, all in the same year.

Save the Children will also welcome actress Blythe Danner of "Meet the Parents" fame to its 75th Anniversary Benefit. Danner has enjoyed much recent success, capturing two Emmy Awards for her work in the television series, "Will & Grace" and the Showtime drama series, "Huff."

The evening will also include the presence of Canadian theatre, film, and television actor Christopher Plummer, who is most famous for his role as Captain Von Trapp from "The Sound of Music."

Anna Deavere Smith, who is an actress, playwright and professor in the Department of Performance Studies at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, enjoyed a long standing role as Dr. Nancy McNally on the Aaron Sorkin-inspired political drama, "The West Wing." A Recipient of a MacArthur Foundation "genius" grant, Smith is the author of "Fires in the Mirror," a play which deals with the 1991 Crown Heights Riot. She will also make an appearance at the benefit in support of Save the Children.
